“Walk For Life” September 29, 2008

We had our “Walk For Life” rally today in Jackson. Birth Choice is the one who sponsors this event. I am a volunteer lay counselor at Birth Choice. I have been for 2 years. Birth Choice is a crisis pregnancy center. At Birth Choice we offer free pregnancy tests and free ultra-sound to the girls who come in wanting to know if they are pregnant or not. We also offer counseling on the options available and the risks involved in an abortion. We have parenting classes that goes through all the stages of pregnance, these also include sexual health classes and prepared childbirth classes. We help meet the financial needs of the mothers by giving them points for coming to the classes and doing their homework. With their points they can purchase baby items from our resource room. We also offer spiritual help by presenting the gospel to them as well as doing Bible study with them. Everything we do is centered around the Word of God and we seek to honor Him in all that we do.

We had a great time today. We had a good turn out for the 2 mile walk. I am not sure how much money we raised. We also had NAS CRIB RACES!! They are alot of fun. Contestants create a crib anyway they chose to race. They get trophies for the fastest crib, most creative, and the team that raised the most money. It is a hoot watching the races. One person rides in the crib while another pushes the crib for 2 laps around the track. It is hilarious.

We had some special guests to show up…Minnie Mouse, Cookie Monster, and several clowns. We had popcorn, cotton candy, icees, and games for the kids. It was a great time for all. It was great to see all the people willing to participate in raising money for such a great cause. We had people of all ages represented.

HALLMARK CARDS MAKES CARDS FOR GAY’S September 29, 2008

I just found out that Hallmark has recently started making cards for Gay’s and Lesbians. I was so appauled by this. I am not sure how you feel about this, but it makes me sick. Hallmark is one of my favorites. What is a Christian to do when your favorite company that you believed to be wholesome family friendly is now creating cards for the gays and lesbians. Do you continue to support these companies or not. I have been boycotting McDonalds for months now when I discovered that they were funding the “Gay and Lesbian Alliance” and they even sponsored a Gay march.

I know that God’s word is clear on the subject of homesexuals. God says that it is an abomination to Him.  What are Christians to do when the world screams for tolerance, but they are intolerant of Christians that stand up for the word of God.

1Cr 6:9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders

Tanner to the ER September 26, 2008

Yesterday was my usual day off. It is a day to run errands and clean house and of course do laundry. Well, in the middle of my chores Tanner starts complaining with his stomach hurting. He had complained off and on the day before so I was a little concerned. I ran to the grocery store while he stayed home laying on the couch. When I got home he was in serious pain. He is crying and holding his stomach. I start trying to figure out what to do. The first thing I did was pray for him and for wisdom to know what to do. It was only about 4:00 so I called the walk in clinic for advice. They suggested taking him to the ER because it could be his appendix and they would be able to run tests there. I call my husband at work to see what he thinks we should do. He usually is against the ER he thinks everything is NO big deal, where on the other hand I tend to panick. He suggested calling his pediatrician. I called his pediatrician to see what he thinks, he agreed with the walk-in clinic that we should take him to the ER. So, Randy comes home from work and we are off to the ER.

Tanner starts saying his usual saying “I wish Jesus would come back”. He longs for Jesus to come back and mentions it often. He especially mentions it when life gets hard. I encouraged him to trust Jesus to help him face whatever God allows into his life. He then says “I just want Jesus to come back”. That would be the best solution to all our problems, but God wants us to depend on Him to give us the courage and strength to deal with life here on earth until His return.

While at the ER. we have to wait in the waiting room for 4 hours before they call us back. That was a test of our patience.Tanner was so bored and frustrated. I was sympothetic for the other patients some which were worse than Tanner and I tried to explain to Tanner how they triage the patients and take them by the seriousness of their condition. I was also thinking what if they let his appendix burst before they call us back. We saw one mom run in carrying a lifeless baby screaming for someone to help. They took her straight back. I would gladly give her our spot. I prayed for the family. Later I got a chance to ask the mom how the baby was and let her know that I was praying for her. She said she was going to be fine. She said that the babies eyes had rolled back in her head and she passed out. That would be so frightening. Another family looked very upset as they took them into a private room. I prayed for them as well. I saw a friend bring her football playing son in and they rushed him back. I prayed for them. I talked to a young mom holding her 4 month old son, trying to get my courage up to ask to hold him, but I never did. Four hours is a long time to sit. I watched the people around me. I saw one lady that I thought should have been arrest for suspicion of using METH, she definetly had all the signs.

Finally we get called back to a room to wait some more. Tanner gets 6 tubes of blood drawn. That was an ordeal. He hates needles. I had to hold him down and tell him to quote scripture and pray through it. He makes it through. We praise him for being brave. Me and Randy both hate needles so we can’t say much. I almost didn’t marry Randy because we had to have a blood test before we could get married. I kicked and screamed and threw a fit, but I did it. I am much better now. Randy just passes out. Tanner has to drink some yucky lemonaide stuff with no sugar so it would line his stomach for a CT scan. He has to wait 2 hours after he drank the stuff for the CT. He also had to have an IV for die to be ran through for the CT. Here we go again with the needles. At almost 1:00 a.m. we get the CT done it showed that his appendix were fine, but that his bowels and lower intestines were inflamed. They had no idea why. They gave us the option of admitting him to see a Gastrologist or go home and get an appointment with a doctor. We chose to go home and wait to see a doctor. They said it could be as simple as a virus or as serious as Chromes Disease. So, if he gets better it was probably just a virus. He was not vomiting, diarrhea or fever or any usual signs of a virus, just serious stomach pain. So we will wait and see. He is feeling better today. He slept good last night.

It is always hard to know whether to go to the ER or not. If you wait it could be a ruptured appendix or you could go and spend lots of money and it be gas.  I guess it is better to be safe than sorry. I know that for whatever reason God led us there maybe it was to pray for the other families. Only God knows.

Tanner’s Orthodontist Appointment September 20, 2008

Tanner now!

Tanner now!

We have had an amazing journey over the past few years with Tanner’s teeth. He has been going to Dr. Grant in Nashville for 4 – 5 years. When we started Tanner had severly bucked teeth and crooked teeth. His gums  covered half of his teeth.

He got braces, had his wisdom teeth cut out, and had major oral surgery removing the gums both front and back and top and bottom. It was about a 4 hour surgery. This was done at Dr. Boyd’s office at Vanderbilt Hospital. He too was amazing. Tanner couldn’t eat for a week. I remember his first meal was Thanksgiving at my best friend Wanda’s. He couldn’t wait to eat, and boy was it worth it. We had a lot to be thankful for that year.

We have had many visits to Dr. Grants. Most people would not look forward to going to the orthodontist, but Tanner loves Dr. Grants office. When he walks in the door, you would think he owned the place. All the staff gather around talking to us and wanting to know how our lives have been since we last saw them. I am talking all the office staff, dental assistance, and Dr. Grant himself. They spoil Tanner rotten. Chris ( the lady in billing)  buys him gifts, emails him, sends him pictures of Nascar races she has been to, buys him shirts of Dale Jr., etc.  They are so good to him. It is so wonderful to be treated like royalty at the doctor’s office. It is so funny to watch. Tanner walks in and starts talking. They stop whatever they are doing to talk to him. They even leave other patients to visit with Tanner. I bet the other patients are wondering who this kid is that is so special that he gets all the attention.

We are close to being finished with his teeth. He looks amazing. It is hard to believe how much better he looks.Tanner says he does not want to be finished. He looks forward to going and visiting with everyone. He will truly miss them. I think they feel they same way that is why Dr. Grant keeps us coming back…hahha.  Dr. Grant did a wonderful job. Thanks Dr. Grant. and staff. We love you guys.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17

America’s Got Talent September 11, 2008

I have been watching America’s Got Talent. I have had to change the channels when some of the sleezy acts were on, but now that it is down to the top 20 they have iliminated all those acts and have gotten it down to the real talent. Tonight they get down to the top 10. The competition has been tough. I have several favorites, but this little 4 year old is so precious. She is “America’s Princess”. She makes me smile and also moves me to tears. I don’t think she will win the competition because she is too pure for Vegas, and I hope she stays that way. Here is the song she sang last night.

Sarah Palin – Piper Palin licks brother September 10, 2008

I am not big into politics. I do vote, but I am not one to listen to all the debates and speaches made by the candidates. I usually get my info from Christian radio or other Christian sources.

I did however watch Sarah Palin’s speach. I was so impressed with her. She talked with such confidence and poise. I couldn’t stop watching and listening to her. I believe she is a women of conviction and principle. I believe she does have what it takes to be VP.

I especially liked meeting her family. The sweetest moment was when Piper licked her hand to smooth down her baby brothers hair…PRICELESS!!! It was one of those aahhh moments. Too cute!

If you missed it you can see a replay on you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boPsn6LOd9M

My Baby Turns 21 September 8, 2008

It is hard to believe that little bundle of joy that I brought home 21 years ago is all grown up. It has been a wonderful journey. I feel blessed that God chose me to be Dustin’s mom. He is a very talented, gifted, intelligent and a godly young man. I know I am biased, but it is all true.

Dustin's 21st Birthday!

Dustin 21st. Birthday

We celebrated his birthday for 3 days. It was packed full with activities. We got up early Saturday morning and went to Nashville. We took Tanner our youngest son to get autographs from Cletus Hog and Cooter from the Dukes of Hazzard. This was not my idea of fun. We were definetly out of our element. We were in redneckville. It was bad. However, Tanner loved it. We stood in line for 2 hours to get these autographs. He was so excited. What parents do for their kids.

We finally leave and head to the zoo. It was a hot and humid day to walk around the Nashville zoo to look at animals. This was Dustin’s favorite thing to do. He was in heaven. He was like a kid in a candy store. We ran from one animal to the next. We spent about 4 hours at the zoo.

After we left the zoo, we were all nasty and sweaty, but we freshened up the best we could in the car and we went to eat at CozyMel’s Mexican Restaurant. It was ok. but not the best in the world. We had a rude waiter. The food was not that great either, but we made the most of it. Of course we had to stop by Lifeway for a few minutes and buy the next Loui Giglio video. We watched both videos one going to Nashville and the new one on the way home. When we got back to my parents we let them watch them too.

Sunday, I cooked a big meal and all of my family come over to celebrate. We ate and then we had a big cornhole tournement. We paired off and had a double elimination tournement. Dustin and Randy won. Me and my sister came in 3rd. My two nephews got second, Matthew and Dylan. They beat everyone except Randy and Dustin. We had a great time of competitive family time. It didn’t stop there though. We got so hot playing cornhole that my brother Donnie invited us all to his house for a pool party. There we had a big pool volleyball competition. When we get together we are going to find some type of competition. We love to play together. It was a blast. I love to hang out with my family.

Monday, the actually birthday. We go to Randy’s parents and have a cook out with his parents, they made homemade ice cream ,yummy, chocolate and vanilla. His mom also had homemade strawberry jam to put on the vanilla. It was all good. We played cornhole there too. Me and Randy played Dustin and Kandace of course me and Randy won. We even got Randy’s mom to play. Jonathan, Kayla and Gloria come down and get in on the cornhole action. Dustin leaves to go off to celebrate with Kandace so that ends his 3 day birthday celebration.

Union University “Back to School” September 8, 2008

As most of you know Union University was hit by an F4 tornado back in February. 17 buildings were damaged. It was an awful site. It reminded me of Hurricane Katrina pictures, that was all I could compare it to.

My husband just graduated from Union in December and our two sons Dustin and Cody go to Union. We live just about a couple of miles from Union.

Dustin lived in the dorms for 3 years and he decided in January that he was going to move back home. Cody lived on campus for one semester. Dustin was suppose to be giving a piano lesson the day of the tornado. His student didn’t show up, so he decided to come home. He arrives home just as the tornado alarms are going off. I was home alone when they went off. Randy and Tanner had ran to the store. They missed the tornado by 10 minutes. It hit across the road from the store they were at. Cody was at work and he heard the tornado. Everyone gets home except Cody. We keep hearing the alarms blaring and then sirens. Dustin gets a text message saying Union had been hit. We were in shock. We wanted to go and help, but the news said for everyone to stay put. We felt helpless. This was our school. We wanted to be there. Cody leaves work and goes to Union. He tells us how devastated Union was. That cars were piled up everywhere and that several buildings were destroyed. He has a heard time making it home because of all the debris. We feel helpless all we can do is pray and trust the creator of the universe to be with the students that are trapped under the rubble. God was indeed with our students. Out of over 2,000 students not one was killed and only few were hurt enough to go to the hospital. Praise the Lord!!

Today, Union University if back in business. The dorms have been rebuilt. Students head back to school today including my two sons. Union is almost back to normal. The only thing not fixed is our beautiful clock tower that stands in the middle of the campus. It is what gives Union its character. It is the centerpiece of Union. It is amazing how quickly our campus was rebuilt. We have a record number of students this year and already need to build more dorms to house the students. God has his hand on Union University.
