A Minister’s Wife Just Rambling

My Mission Update March 30, 2009

I have not posted lately about Mission Jackson. I am still going out into the community on Sunday afternoons doing backyard Bible club with the kids behind the church in the project housing. We have had some big events lately and are planning a big Easter Eggstravaganza next Sunday. We will have the big jumper, Easter egg hunt, Easter story with the resurrection eggs, cake walk, food, prizes, games. It will be a great time for the kids and their families. We hope to share the love of Jesus with each family. We pray that many will come to know Jesus as their Savior.

I have also joined another ministry called “Clean Slate”. We are a small scale version of “Extreme Home Makeover”. We have renovated a couple of rooms at the women’s shelter. It has been a huge success in the lives of the women there. Two have been saved, and several have started attending church. We are planning to do several more rooms. We put in tile floors, painted the ceiling and walls,  and redecorated the whole rooms. We also had a baby shower for one lady who had a premature baby and is bringing the baby home on Tuesday. The baby was born in January.

We also renovated a ladies home that was recently divorced. She was a Mormon and a lady from our church lead her to the Lord. Her husband cheated on her and left her after 30 years of marriage. She didn’t get anything out of the divorce. She was once wealthy and now has very little. She had bought a very small old house that needed lots of work. She had done alot of work already. Her foundation was sinking and need to be jacked up. Our team went in and jacked the house up, put in new floors, new carpet and linoleum, painted and redecorated the whole house. I got a chance to talk to her one evening and she shared with me her shattered heart and shattered dreams. She just cried as she told me about her husbands betrayal. My heart has been broken for her. I just pray that God will wrap her in his arms of love and bring healing to her.

I am so blessed to be a part of a church that is involved in sharing Jesus in the community. It is hard to choose which ministries to get involved in. I love to do them all. I have to sacrifice not being in the choir to do these other ministries. I love to sing, but I feel I am needed in the mission field.

Another passion of mine is my Tuesday’s that I volunteer at Birth Choice. I get a chance to share the gospel with girls that come to us in crisis pregnancy. This has been a very rewarding ministry. Please be in prayer for crisis pregnancy centers all across our nation as we come under attack. I got word from our director that on April 13 that NARAL and Planned Parenthood was going to be protesting clinics like ours. We don’t know for sure if ours will be one of them or not.

Our church is planning to have Easter services at the Oman Arena. We have 3 services each Sunday morning, we never get the whole church family together so our pastor decided to rent the Oman Arena so we could have our whole family together and have room to invite the community. I am excited to see what the Lord will do in this service. The Oman seats 5,000 people. I pray we fill every seat. I am on the Decision Making team. I pray that each member will have the opportunity to lead someone to Christ. Thank you Lord for allowing me to be a member to Englewood. If you want you can check out our church website and even listen to our pastor preach the Word of God. Our mission is to love God and love people.

Family Travels March 28, 2009

We have put some miles on the vehicle in the past week. It all started on Tuesday the 17th, we went to Memphis for Tanner’s birthday. We were going to the zoo, but we got in a traffic jam and the zoo was full. We drove on into Arkansas just cause. We play a game of disc golf at a park in Memphis. We met a pastor friend for dinner at Chilli’s. Then we took Tanner to ride go-karts.

Thursday the 19th we go back to Memphis to hear Dustin sing with the Union Singers as they leave to go on tour. They went to Mississippi, New Orleans, LA, Tampa, FL, Atlanta, GA, and back to Columbia, TN and then home. They really but some miles on the tour bus. They had 14 different performances. The highlight of the trip was a homeless guy jumping on the moving bus and robbing the bus driver. The bus driver final stopped int the middle of the rode and made him get off. They also got to hang out with “Casting Crowns” in Atlanta. Mark Hall requested they come and meet the band while they were rehearsing. Cool!!!

Dustin and Mark Hall

Thursday night at midnight we leave to go to my mom’s. We get there at 3:30 a.m. We hit a deer on the way. We were going 70 mph. when it ran in front of the Suburban. It did a little damage, but not much. I am thankful we were in the big rig.

Friday, I stay at my mom’s while Randy, Cody and Tanner go to Bristol for the NASCAR races. The Lord came through with a “FREE” place for them to stay. It was a trailer behind a children’s home. They even fed them breakfast. God is so good. Cody got to be on stage with Daryl Waltrop in a contest. He won and got to compete the next day. It was on TV. Tanner got to meet some drivers and get autographs. They had a wonderful trip. I pray blessings on all the ones who made this trip possible. Pam for getting the tickets, John for hooking us up with the place to stay, considering everything was booked for 2 hours out. The children’s home for allowing them to stay. The man who donated the tickets and Don for giving Tanner a $100 for the trip. It was so unbelievable!!!

While they were gone I spent time with my family. Mom, Dad, Melanie, Mikayla, Mary Beth and I went out to eat on Fri. to a seafood buffet. Then we went shopping.

Saturday, Me, Mel, Mikayla and Mary Beth go back shopping at Florence, AL. We ate at Olive Garden. Melanie bought me a new pair of Yellow Box.

Sunday, Mom cooks a birthday dinner for me and the whole family comes over. We play cards while dad has the TV blaring, my nephew plays the guitar, my nieces chase the two dogs and they are barking all while we are ALL talking loudly to each other. IT WAS A BLAST!!!
You got to love the chaos. I do!!

Monday, Randy and the boys arrive sometime in the early morning hours. I slept through it. We go by and visit Randy’s dad on our way home.

Tuesday, we go to work. After work we decided to go to St. Louis for my birthday. We grab the suitcases and head out. We stopped and ate at Lamberts. It is the home of the “throwed rolls”. It was alot of fun and lots of food. We arrive at our hotel at midnight or later.

Wednesday, we get up and enjoy a hot breakfast at the hotel. We go to the St. Louis Zoo. When we got to the zoo we realized we had left the camera at the hotel about 15 minutes away….so no pictures of our trip. We spend the day strolling through the zoo looking at all the animals. If you haven’t figured it out already, I like the zoo. After the zoo we went down to the ARCH. We toured the museum. We were not able to go to the top. I wouldn’t anyway’s, I am scared of heights. I am a big chicken. That thing is huge. I got nervous just looking at it. We went down to Union Station and ate at Landry’s. That was some good food. The waiter brought me a banana’s foster for my birthday….it was delicious. I really liked St. Louis. There is alot of history there and a lot to see. Then the fun was over and we had to drive home. We got home about 1:00 a.m. and we had to go to work the next morning. Back to the real world. Our travels are over for now.

If as you travel this life you find a friend as special as mine….YOU ARE BLESSED!  I found my sweet friend over 10 years ago.  I never saw it coming!  I was simply surrendering to the call that my husband felt lead to follow from God into ministry.  We left behind family, friends and all of life as we knew it to attend seminary eight hours away.  I wasn’t too worried about making friends, but I had no idea that I would find the one that would stick closer than a brother.  I have never had a cross word with this girl and I can’t think of why I would.  She’s precious.  She makes me a better me.  I love you Marilyn.  I wish I was there closer so we could do some real celebrating!  I miss you!  I hope you have a fantastic big 40!  You deserve it!

Tanner is a WINNER!!! March 16, 2009

This has been a week of winning for Tanner. He has been so excited. His birthday is this next Tuesday and he will be seventeen. He has had a countdown going on for forever. He asks me everyday to plan his birthday. I have not had any idea what to do for his birthday. He wanted to go to a NASCAR race since he is a HUGE fan, but we couldn’t afford the tickets. I start praying about what we can do to make his birthday special.

Wednesday night at church he was given 2 tickets to the Building 429 concert for Thursday night. YIPPEY!!! We take him to the concert and have a blast. These guys put on a good concert. Of course we had to get their autograph to add to his collection. Thankfully we were the first in line.

Thursday, I get a call from a friend of mine from Birth Choice who works in the youth department at church with Tanner. She tells me that someone had donated 2 tickets to the NASCAR race at Bristol where she works and she wanted to know if Tanner would want them. I am like, ” YEAH!!! You know he would love to go to the race, that is an answer to prayer”. So she said that Tanner could have 2 tickets to the Saturday and Sunday races. That is like worth $300 to $400. Now we are trying to figure out how to get him there since all the hotels around the area are sold out. Thank you Lord for blessing my son with an unforgetable birthday.

I am so astounded at how God blesses us in ways we could never imagine. I don’t really like NASCAR, but Tanner loves it, and as a mother we want to make our kids birthdays special and that blesses us more than anything else.

If you then though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! Luke 11:13

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:7

Pride Goeth Before The FALL!!! March 8, 2009

As the old proverb goes, “Pride goeth before the fall”. Well I got an up close and literal version of the truth from the proverb. You see, I was playing disc  golf with my husband and son on Saturday morning and I was angry with my husband for hurrying me to leave and didn’t take me to get any caffeine. I am addicted to caffeine in the morning. Anyway, he had to be at work by 11:00 and he decides around 8:30 that if we hurry we can get in another game of disc golf. Since we discovered the game only a little over a week ago he has been addicted. He has played 5 days already, we even played 45 holes on Thursday. He rushes me to hurry up and get ready so we can play before he goes to work. I hurry. I tell him that we need to stop and get some breakfast on the way. He says, he will be fine eating a bowl of cereal. So he does. I am getting ready and by the time I get ready I don’t have time for cereal, or caffeine. He hands me a granola bar to eat. That was fine, but where is my caffeine? He then proceeds to the golf course. I am getting angrier and angrier as we get closer because he has not stopped to get me any caffeine. He is in “CONQUER MODE”. We get there and he has NO IDEA why I am mad at him. I know I was a little selfish, but you don’t mess with my morning caffeine. We began to play and I am ignoring him and giving him the cold shoulder. He acts like nothing ever happened. I do tell him why I am upset. He continues to try to act as if nothing happened, which makes me even more angry. We continue to play. The course is tough. We trapes though the woods going up and down steep hills, in ditches and on slick ground. We are headed down a hill that is slippery. Randy reaches out his hand to me and I refuse like I had all morning. I had my nose in the air and my shoulders back determined I didn’t need his assistance. Boy was I wrong. As soon as I refused his hand my feet fly out from in under me and I landed hard on my bottom. I was in instant pain. I still am. Randy helps me up and tries to console me. I soften a little. I then said, now I understand what the proverb means, “Pride goeth before the fall”. I should have taken your hand. I let my pride get in the way and I fell hard. It is a lesson I will not soon forget. I laughed at myself and took Randy’s hand the rest of the day. I did finish the game, in pain.

I also learned another lesson from that fall. I realized that the LORD always has his hand stretched out to me to guide me through the course of life, to keep me from falling, and just like I did with Randy I let my pride keep me from taking His very capable hand. God knows the way I should go. Why do I not hold his hand and allow Him to lead me. I want so much to hold his hand and never let go. I know He will never let go of me, because He says in his word, I will never leave you or forsake you. Thank you Lord for always being there for me holding out your hand to me. May I always take it!!!!

As I searched the word “hand” in the Bible there were 364 references, but here are a few that spoke to me.

I follow close behind you; your strong right handholds me securely. Ps. 63:8

Yet I still belong to you; you are holding my right hand. Ps. 73:23

Even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. Ps. 139:10

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. Is. 41:10

Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Prov. 16:18

We got about a foot of Snow!!! March 2, 2009

Here is a picture of my house with the snow. The ruler is on top of the car.

We have not seen snow like this in about 20 years. The last time Dustin was a baby and I had to walk in a foot of snow down the hill to Randy’s parents because we didn’t have a phone and the snow hit while Randy was at work. He was already about two hours late. I bundled Dustin up and put him in the baby carrier that you wear on your back and trucked down the hill about 1/4 a mile. As I started down the hill Randy pulled into his parents driveway. I was so relieved to see him.

My first memory of the snow was when I was in first grade, we were sitting in class and it started to snow. The teacher let everyone get up to see it. Then she told us all to sit down so we could get back to work. Well, when they all sat down, I jumped up so I could see the snow. I could not see it good while everyone else was looking out. You will not believe what happened next. My teacher gave me a paddling. I was devastated. I told her, all I wanted to do was see the snow. That was one of very few paddling I ever got. Today, when I see my teacher I tease her about paddling me for looking at the snow. She says she felt so bad after that. She still regrets it. I told her not as much as I did.

We made good use of the snow today. We took Dustin to play disc golf for the first time. It was quite a bit more challenge in a foot of snow. Our disc would get burried and we spent lots of time looking for them. We lost two disc that we never found. We had a lot of fun it took us 3 hours to play. We were cold, tired and hungry by the time we finished.

Here are a few more snow pictures.
